計劃說明 :
展場生物基礎及應用研究的主題研究計畫即以永續經營飼養為主軸,動物福祉為本的概念,並以健康評估為研究發展重心,並結合現代生物科技進行代謝體學、分子檢測技術,搭配血液學的分析來進行整合性的研究。此計畫期望能建立起「生物指標監測系統」,在馴養動物尚未出現嚴重異常行為與死亡前,便能深入了解其健康狀態,以防範避免後續更嚴重的事件發生。於此架構之下,本計畫之研究成果不僅可作為海洋科普教育之教材,亦可提供更多基礎知識於未來發展海洋動物的健康及環境狀態的評估系統。
國立海洋生物博物館的大型展示動物物種:白鯨與企鵝,在長期人為控制的環境條件之下眷養著,如果需要達到海洋科學研究、展示暨科普教育等目的時,確保明星動物的健康狀況則是不可缺乏的重要關鍵。於此概念之下,展場生物基礎及應用研究團隊利用代謝體學的研究方法描述大型展示生物血液中脂質分子組成,用以增進對相關生物脂質代謝的了解(子計畫1-唐川禾博士);結合血液血漿生化參考值分析,以及血液中壓力荷爾蒙的測定,並著手建立由高靈敏性的分子檢測技術,分析血液中相關免疫基因的表現,期許能達成疾病診斷、健康監測與預後判定的目與早期診斷及預防醫學等目的(子計畫2-李宗賢獸醫師與湯政豪博士)。此外,海生館的展示數量最多且多樣性最高的動物即是魚類;但是在循環水系統馴養下,將使得魚類容易受到水體含氮廢物的威脅而影響其生理健康狀態。本計畫基於動物健康福利的概念,將模擬展場的水體含氮廢物之濃度,評估其對展場魚類的潛在生理影響(子計畫3-湯政豪博士),以達到展示品質與動物福祉兩全兼顧之效果。
